This 6,500 sq ft house was designed as a vacation home for a family with two children. The clients wanted to have a family retreat for the summer where they could spend time together with their kids as well as to entertain and relax. The style of the house could be described as a farm house with elements of arts and crafts and shingle style. The owners enjoy contemporary art, classic modern furniture and interesting lighting design. The juxtaposition of textures and some splashes of color against predominantly off white background creates a stimulating yet relaxed environment. The design won first place in Architectural Digest’s Open Audition New York 2008.
